Crowns and Bridges
Crowns and bridges are permanent prosthetic devices. Unlike dentures which need daily removal and cleaning, they are cemented onto existing teeth or implants. Crowns are used to restore teeth to their normal shape and size and they can improve the appearance of your teeth and make them stronger.
Dentists may recommend a crown in the following situations:
Fracture protection of a weak tooth
Restoring a tooth that has fractured
Replacing a large filling
Covering a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment
Covering a dental implant
Covering unattractive, discolored, or oddly shaped teeth
How long do crowns and bridges last?
Generally, crowns last a lifetime but sometimes become loose or fall out. In order to extend the life of your crown the best thing to do is to practice good oral hygiene. Brushing with fluoride toothpaste twice a day and flossing daily will ensure a long life for your crowns. Additionally, regular visits to the dentist and cleanings by a hygienist are extremely helpful in maintaining good oral health. Avoiding chewing hard foods, ice or other hard objects also prevent damage to your new crown. The doctors at One Dental Clinic entirely cover up or “cap” the damaged tooth. They place the crown to improve appearance, shape, and alignment.
